Review: Water for Elephants by: Sara Gruen

5 out of 5 stars
I hesitated to pick up "New York Times Bestsellers", because most of the time I don't fully understand the hype around them, either they're just a mediocre book or they fall extremely short of the hype that surrounds it, this was not the case with Water for Elephants. Sara Gruen literally places you in the middle of a 1920's traveling circus and dosen't drop you off until the very last page. I felt like I was right along side Jacob and Marlena and the rest of the Characters in the novel.

The story was breath-taking, and captivating, and the characters and even the animals were so easy to like and so different in their roles and I loved it. This is one of the first historical fiction novels i've read in a long time, at least that come to mind, and although I was apprehensive to start this, i'm so happy I picked it up when I did. I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie adaptation of this as it is currently in theaters now, and as a true book-lover must read the novel before I go see the movie adaptation of it!! I have high expectations for this film so we will see what I think, but so far i've heard good things.

Water for Elephants is an absolutly delightful story, it covers everything a truly remarkable novel should have; love, crime, secrets, drama, etc. this book has it all!

  2. I loved this book too! (and blogged abut it, feel free to check it out!) I've been meaning to read it since it came out since I used to work in a book store and I had countless people tell me I needed to read it. Since I knew the movie release date was rapidly approaching I made sure I picked it up. Soooo glad I did. Amazing story and I agree with you - you really feel like you're right there with them. Amazing! :)
